What happens when we try to extend our capacities to perceive? Can such extensions ever lead to genuinely new forms of perception, or do they at best present cunningly crafted illusions? In this paper I consider the case of virtual reality environments, and the way these can be said to extend visual and perhaps tactile experience. I will defend a version of virtual realism, according to which virtual objects are real objects.
