It is very natural to think that depiction has something to do with resemblance. Although the simplest version of this view has been widely rejected, the basic intuition has persisted in the form of experienced resemblance theories of depiction. I end by considering the upshot for the widespread view that depiction is distinctive in providing spectators with visual impressions of their contents.
